A collection of the most frequently asked questions and answers about the purchase of motorway e-vignettes.

When do I need to buy the motorway vignette?

In Hungary the motorway vignette must always be purchased before entering the toll road section. There is a grace period in the regulation helping bona fide road users who have mistakenly entered the toll road section, providing a maximum of 60 minutes from the time of entering to purchase a vignette. The subsequent purchase of a motorway vignette, therefore, does not constitute retroactive authorisation; the subsequent purchase of a vignette – with the above exception – shall be considered unauthorised road use.

How long does it take to get the motorway vignette?

The process of the purchase is very fast, there is no need for registration, it will only take a minute. The motorway vignette will be sent to you immediately after the successful payment.

Should the sticker be affixed to the windscreen?

No. The Hungarian e-vignette system is completely electronic and so is the toll enforcement, so the system uses registration number readers to decide if road use authorisation has been purchased for the given number plate. However, it is recommended that the confirmation message sent by e-mail be kept for a further 2 years after the expiry date.

Do I need to register?

Purchases on our site can be made without registration. The process of the purchase is very fast, road use authorisation can be bought in a minute.

What do I need to remember after the purchase?

Avoid unauthorised road use and save yourself from inconvenience by always checking the vehicle registration number, country code, vehicle category and validity period.

How can I pay?

At the moment you can pay by credit card on our site. Safe bank card payment is provided by OTP Mobil / SimplePay online solution. Our Company does not see or manage any card data.

What is my vehicle category?

Based on the Hungarian regulation, the type of motorway vignette needed for the specific vehicle is determined on the basis of category classification. These vehicle categories have been specified according to the official entry in the vehicle registration certificate, so you can always check it there. The maximum number of persons the vehicle is designed to carry is determined by the official entry (‘S.1.’ – number of seats incl. driver), not the number of seats currently visible in the vehicle. What is the difference between the regional and the other (weekly, monthly, annual) motorway vignettes?

With the exception of the regional vignette, all Hungarian motorway stickers are time-based, i.e. they allow the use of the complete toll road network of the country within its validity period. Regional vignettes are also territory-based, thus only the toll road network of the specific county may be used within its validity period. Regional vignettes are available for vehicle categories D1, D2, U and B2, so motorcyclist category D1M is an exception. You may purchase multiple regional e-vignettes for a single vehicle – it may be cost-efficient if you tend to use the road networks of one or more counties all year.

How can I get an invoice of my purchase?

During the purchase, please indicate that you need a VAT invoice, fill in the required data, and our system will automatically send you the invoice of the purchase after successful payment.

When should I purchase a motorway vignette?

The annual national vignette can be used on the whole Hungarian toll road network without restrictions. If the annual cost of the weekly, monthly vignette types and county stickers exceeds HUF 30,000, you might want to buy an annual vignette. You no longer have to look for alternative routes and are guaranteed not to be fined for unauthorised road use with an annual vignette.

Is it possible to drive on the motorway without a vignette?

No. Entering toll roads without a valid motorway vignette is considered unauthorised road use and a fine shall result in a fine.

Is there a possibility to modify or delete a purchased e-vignette?

It is not possible to modify or delete an already purchased valid motorway vignette. Please enter your data carefully when making your purchase. If you entered any of the data incorrectly, you can initiate the correction at the Customer Service of the National Toll Payment Services PLC.

Transfer of vignette: what to do in case of vehicle title transfer

I entered the motorway by mistake, what can I expect?

Bona fide road users who have mistakenly entered the toll road section, have a maximum of 60 minutes from the time of entering to purchase a road use authorisation. So, if you realise in time that you are using a toll road section, you can purchase a vignette at a rest area (in a minute without registration on our site), or ask your passenger if possible, to purchase one for you. It is very important that you stop at a safe place – do not make a purchase on the mobile phone in your hand while driving or after pulling over to the hard shoulder.
