The e-vignette system in Hungary applies to motorcycles, passenger cars (and their trailers), light-duty vehicles of a maximum permissible mass not exceeding 3.5 tons, buses, motor vehicles not subject to toll under separate legislation, and their trailers.

The motorway vignette must always be purchased before entering the toll road section (it is recommended to take care of it before setting off). There is a grace period in the regulation helping bona fide road users who have mistakenly entered the toll road section, providing a maximum of 60 minutes from the time of entering to purchase a vignette. The subsequent purchase of a motorway vignette, therefore, does not constitute retroactive authorisation; the subsequent purchase of a vignette – with the above exception – shall be considered unauthorised road use and shall result in a fine.

In case of electronic payment, the confirmation message serves as a proof (the e-mail or downloadable counterfoil sent by our system). We recommend that you keep the counterfoil or the confirmation message received for two years after the last day of the validity period of the e-vignette.

Vehicle categories

These vehicle categories have been specified according to the official entry in the vehicle registration certificate. The maximum number of persons is determined by the official entry (‘S.1.’ – number of seats incl. driver), not the number of seats currently visible in the vehicle.

Category D1
The code under field ‘J’ in the vehicle registration certificate is ‘M1’. Passenger cars, motor vehicles with up to 5+2 seats and a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons, and their combination with a trailer.

Motorcycle category D1M
Motorcycles belong here. Annual national and regional e-vignettes for motorcycles are available at the rates of vehicle category D1.

Category D2
All motor vehicles not falling into any other vehicle category and not being subject to toll payment under a separate legislation. According to the vehicle registration certificate, the code in field ‘J’ may be ‘M1’ in case of passenger cars which are designed to carry more than 7 persons, or ‘N1’ in case of lorries (up to the maximum gross weight of 3.5 tons).

Category U
Trailers of vehicle category D2 belong here. According to the vehicle registration certificate, the code in field ‘J’ may be ‘O1’ in case of trailers up to the maximum permissible gross weight of 750 kg. The code may be ‘O2’ in case of trailers with the maximum permissible gross weight of 0.75–3.5 tons. Category U vignettes shall be purchased for the vehicle registration number of the trailer.

Validity period

With the exception of the regional vignette, all motorway stickers are time-based, i.e. they allow the use of the complete toll road network of the country within its validity period. Regional vignettes are also territory-based, thus only the toll road network of the specific county may be used within its validity period.

10-day (weekly) vignette
It is valid from the starting date specified by the customer and for a further 9 days – i.e. for 10 consecutive calendar days – until the 24th hour of day 10.

1-day (daily) vignette
It is valid from the starting date specified by the customer until the 24th hour of that day.

Monthly vignette
It is valid from the starting date specified by the customer until the 24th hour of the same day of the immediately following month. Where there is no such day in the month of expiry, they are valid until the 24th hour of the last day of the month.

Annual vignette
It is valid from the year concerned until the 24th hour of 31 January of the following year. The validity of the annual vignette may even be 13 months in case the purchase takes place on 1 January of the year concerned. In case of purchase within its validity period, the annual e-vignette provides road use authorisation from the year concerned until the 24th hour of 31 January of the following year.

Annual regional vignette
It is valid from the year concerned until the 24th hour of 31 January of the following year. The territory-based vignette grants road use authorisation on the toll road network of the specific county; you may purchase multiple county e-vignettes for the same vehicle. Its scope of validity extends to the first junction past the county border.

Hungarian motorway vignette prices in 2024

The fees in the following table are valid from 1 January 2024. The prices of the motorway vignettes are shown in gross fees, i.e. they are inclusive of VAT.

Since motorcycles are not used all year long, there are no separate annual national and annual regional e-vignettes for them. In case you need one, you can buy one at the price of the D1 category, i.e. a D1 category vignette is to be purchased for the motorcycle.

The process of ordering

Purchases on our site are made without registration. After entering the required data, the user pays the price of the motorway vignette with a credit card through a secure payment channel.

After selecting the e-vignette you need, enter the required data, check them, accept the General Terms and Conditions and the data management principles and click on the ‘Submit Order’ button. Then, the user is directed to the secure payment page of the bank card accepting partner, OTP Mobil / SimplePay (our Company does not see or manage any card data).

The user enters their card data on the secure payment page of SimplePay and executes the payment. Then, SimplePay directs the user back to our website.

After successful payment, the page lists the details of the purchase together with the vignette ID confirming the successful vignette purchase, and a confirmation e-mail containing the purchase details and vignette ID is sent to the e-mail address provided by the user.

The user will also receive a confirmation e-mail of the successful payment from OTP Mobil / SimplePay.

Please note that financial performance does not automatically entitle drivers with the road use authorisation. For your own sake, please check if you see a confirmation of success (especially the vignette ID) in your browser or a confirmation e-mail of purchase. Please, contact our Customer Service if it does not happen.

Please check the vehicle registration number, country code and validity period in all cases to avoid typical mistakes. It is recommended to keep the counterfoil for 2 years from the last day of validity.
